Abstract
The 2-D direction-of-arrival estimation plays an important role in increasing the capacity of mobile wireless networks. In this paper, a novel array configuration together with corresponding bandwidth-independent 2-D DOA method is put forward to match the requirement of wideband and narrowband communications. We point out that a copy of the main array, such as the configuration of two identical subarrays, is redundant and not necessary. With the proposed array, a lot of sensors and computation can be saved while the performances of estimation remain almost unchanged
