Abstract :
This paper focuses on the design criteria of high power factor, high power density interior permanent magnet motors with concentrated windings for undersea vehicle propulsions. The design requirements and critical parameters are analyzed. A design approach based on the selection of normalized d-axis inductance and saliency ratio of IPM is presented. Comparisons are made between the different results obtained from the proposed approach in order to examine the effect of critical parameters. Finite element method is used to verify the designs. A practical high power density interior permanent magnet motor is designed, which improves the rated power factor and reduce the volume of power electronic device effectively.
