Licensing software engineers: the Computer Society must continue to lead

The key issue concerning the licensing of software engineers as Professional Engineers in the United States is not whether it should occur; i.e., it appears that such licensing is inevitable, and the focus should therefore be on having an implementation strategy that is of maximum benefit to both the computing and engineering communities. Of the two major computing societies, IEEE-CS has shown the most willingness to work with the US licensing organizations in the short-term. The article argues that it is essential that the Computer Society continue to provide leadership to the computing field in this area
