  • Abstract
The paper discusses critical issues and challenges for the present generation of smart antennas, identifying multi-reconfiguration capabilities that can be addressed by evolutionary computing. A bio-inspired model called cognitive antenna system - CAS is proposed. Evolutionary algorithms are pointed at as a means of modelling and implementing cognitive mechanisms in such a system, based on the proposed antenna-channel co-evolution concept.
