Abstract
Particulate filled epoxy resins are used as dielectric insulation materials. Investigations of the electrical surface conductance of silica (SiO2) and alumina (Al2O3) filled epoxy resins in corrosive atmospheres under DC and AC stress are reported. The influence of the corrosion parameters on the conductivity is discussed. The experimental data are used to identify the surface conduction mechanism, and a thermal flashover criterion is derived. It relates the surface conductance to the maximal voltage stress
