Abstract
This paper reviews photonic technologies for providing terabit/s capacity communication networks. Recent advances in optical frequency synthesis techniques for high density wavelength division multiplex systems and in the use of optical non-linear elements in high capacity (>1 Tb/s.Mm) long haul systems are also described.
