Abstract :
The formula hybrid competition is a student event where teams compete against one another in a realworld engineering environment. Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) fielded a team to compete in the second annual competition in May 2008 against 14 other schools. A true passion for designing, improving, and racing hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) has evolved at IIT from this remarkable experience. The ACE team competed with two student-designed hybrid vehicles of different drivetrain types, composed of a wide variety of cutting edge technologies, including lithiumpolymer batteries, continuous variable transmissions, and permanent magnet synchronous machines.
