Abstract :
There has been considerable interest in the subject of smart antenna systems. We propose a Butler matrix fed circular array for modifying the already deployed fixed sector CDMA systems to an adaptive sectorized one. Using a simple algorithm for adaptation: it has been shown that the proposed system is capable of overcoming non-uniform user distributions, and effectively obtain higher capacity compared to current cellular systems. Our approach can be smoothly evolved towards a high capacity switched beam architecture
