  • Abstract
A simple geometric representation in the complex plane of the output voltage-input current space vector modulation technique for forced commutated cycloconverters (FCCs) is given. By simultaneous observation of the reference voltage and current vector in the FCC inverter and rectifier hexagon, respectively, selection of the switching combinations as well as determination of their on-times can be easily followed. Design and digital implementation of the modulator, using a microprocessor system with reduced real-time computation is described. The resultant output voltages and input currents, obtained on an FCC laboratory prototype, are sinusoidal, practically without low-frequency harmonics. Maximal voltage gain (√3/2) and controllable input displacement factor are achieved
