Abstract
The authors present an alternative method of calculating the reference values for compensators of nonactive power (fundamental reactive power, higher harmonics, unbalance, slow variation of active power, load leveling). The proposed method is based on analysis of the load current space vector in rotating coordinates. This method is compared with the traditional approach of calculating the space vector components in stationary coordinates. The authors also propose a novel hybrid power circuit of a nonactive power compensator. The control method proposed leads to a significant reduction of the computation algorithm and thus of the cost of the control system. The knowledge of the current components that can be compensated with and without energy storage elements leads to reduction of the hardware of the power circuit and might reduce the operation losses
