Abstract :
Reliability and maintainability (RAM) modeling methodology for evaluating a fossil generating power unit is discussed. Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation´s Huntley Unit 65 is used as an example of how the RAM model can be applied as a practical tool at the plant and corporate levels to improve unit availability. The development, evaluation and validation of the RAM model is outlined. The collection of plant data, development of availability state models, preparation of system fault trees, collection and computation of equipment failure data, and documentation of findings are discussed
