Abstract :
A method is introduced to analyze the self-framing properties of alphabetic mBnB line codes. The technique consists of three steps: evaluating the probability that any n-bit sequence in the received bit stream simulates a codeword, developing a mathematical description of the desired lock entry and lock exit algorithms, and then using expressions derived to give quantitative estimates of framing performance. Framing performance of a 7B8B code is presented, along with simulation results which confirm the validity of this analysis technique
