Abstract
Rotor configurations strongly influence the performance of interior permanent magnet electrical machines. The aim of this paper is to compare and evaluate different rotor configurations for interior permanent magnet electrical machines. Based on the requirements of a medium single shaft hybrid electric bus, circumferential, radial, V-type and U-type rotor configurations have been designed out under the same stator parameters and the same volume of permanent magnets. Corresponding torque capability, flux weakening capability, and demagnetization with standing capability are compared. The results show that V-type and U type configurations are better for non-overlapping winding and circumferential configuration is better for overlapping winding.
