Abstract :
A color imager, consisting of a charge-coupled device, is used as a mechanical eye in an automatic color difference discrimination system. Because the trial system is primarily intended for use in Japan. the imager is adapted to the color perception characteristics of dark eyes. The CCD color imager is operated under the control of a personal computer to provide the discrimination threshold for color sensation automatically. The color mixing system of the color stimulus is constructed by the additive and subtractive color mixtures. The additive color mixture depends on the opaque pigments and the subtractive color mixture depends on the nearly clear pigments. The system was investigated with both the additive and subtractive color mixtures and resulted in automatic color difference discrimination. Color matching for painting of an automobile has been demonstrated by both the additive and subtractive color mixtures
