Abstract :
This paper addresses the problem of robustly transmitting data that has been compressed with a variable length source code (VLC). It considers the transmission of packets of data that have been compressed with a VLC and protected with an error control code, and it shows how “side information” about the length of the packets can be exploited to improve the performance
