Abstract
In this paper, a physics-based representation of a frequency modulated switch mode converter is presented. The proposed physics based model can be used to evaluate the electromagnetic interference in the structure of the converter. In this method the power converter magnetic components and their position on the circuit board are modeled numerically using finite element analysis (FEA). Subsequently, the placement of the components and also the electrical and operating parameters of the converter are optimized in a way to limit the propagated electromagnetic field of the components. This is an essential fact in design of the power converters and the evaluation of their EMI interactions for EMC compliance.
