Abstract
The main features of a mathematical model of cerebral-blood-flow regulation in the rat are discussed. In building the model, the actions of all the main feedback mechanisms (chemical, neurogenic, and myogenic), which are assumed to work on the cerebrovascular bed to regulate blood flow, are described according to present physiological knowledge. Simulation of blood flow based on the model allows the role played by the above mechanisms in response to different physiopathological stimuli to be determined. Several experimental conditions (reactive hyperemia autoregulation to arterial pressure changes, moderate arterial hypoxia, functional hyperemia, stimulation of nerve fibers) can be studied with the help of the model.<>
