Abstract
The integration of satellite and terrestrial mobile communication systems demonstrates an immediate solution to enable a mobile satellite terminal (MT) to access the land mobile satellite system (LMSS) inside an urban area. The base stations of the terrestrial system will act as relay stations for the LMSS when the MT operates inside an urban area. Mathematical models are developed to simulate and analyse signals received at the MT in a Rayleigh-fading channel. The influence of level-crossing rate (LCR) and bit error probability (BEP) on the switching criteria for the integrated system are presented
