Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine whether significant differences occurred in the amount of knowledge achieved using four rates of speech: 135, 202, 270 and 300 words per minute. Three experiments were carried out to determine the listening ability of ninety students. The results showed few differences in intelligibility, comprehension, and scores using the four rates of speech as listening modes. With compressed speech, the students were more efficient than with the other rates, since they acquired the same amount of knowledge in less time.<>
