Abstract :
This paper examines the enhancements for user interaction proposed by the IN CS-2 draft recommendations, the USI service feature. It highlights the primary advantage of USI over CS-1 interaction, the use of out channel signalling which has the following beneficial characteristics: it makes more efficient use of network resources as it does not require the allocation of a bearer channel or an intelligent peripheral; this technique also provides greater flexibility because interaction is made possible in parallel with bearer transmission, during call setup/release and even outside the context of a call (call unrelated USI); and a wider repertoire of information can be communicated via signalling messages. Therefore, USI is targeted at emerging user interaction applications such as mobility management and broadband service control
