Abstract
Optical fiber sensors require, sometimes, fibers with features very different from the commercially available ones. The required features for a particular sensing fiber depend upon the application, and can be determined with the help of software simulation tools. The use of CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) tools for optical fiber sensor design can reduce the need of drawing several fibers to be tested in the laboratory, thus decreasing the costs in the sensor design. This work presents a specification for a prototype software tool, developed with concepts from existing models in software engineering and human-computer interaction. The prototype interface is implemented and existing simulation routines are incorporated into the simulation interface
