Abstract
The paper deals with power quality (PQ) standards in Brazil during its electricity industry restructuring process. By outlining the existing situation, it shows that PQ standards today are the ones inherited from the old (state owned) model. Besides being older than twenty years, standards concentrate only on long-duration voltage variation and reliability. In the near future, the regulatory commission intends to modify the existing standards to improve voltage quality and reliability of customer supply. Although under study by commission personnel, the creation of standards on other PQ phenomena is only scheduled in the long term
