Abstract
Reports results of a preliminary investigation of the problem of (adaptively) identifying unknown parameters in models of dynamical systems with symmetry. It is shown that the knowledge that symmetry is present in the dynamics of a given system can be exploited both in deciding what can be identified about the system and in developing strategies for performing the identification. Computer simulations are presented to illustrate that such considerations have significant potential for improving the system identification process
