Abstract
ALLAO is a computer-assisted interactive video system designed to help lip-reading teaching and evaluation for the hearing-impaired. The video disk, driven by a microcomputer, displays video sequences of speech to be understood by the deaf. The interactive features of a video disk-fast retrieval, immediate repetition and slow motion-are perfectly adapted to the needs of lip-reading acquisition. ALLAO allows test conditions (stimuli and procedures) to be reproduced accurately and thus provides reliable evaluations. Multiparameter evaluation permits the nature of the difficulties of each subject to be determined, so that the training program an be adapted to the subject´s specific needs.<>
