Abstract :
We present a set of linear codes, namely LEC, to recover from data erasure errors using minimum redundancy that is theoretically possible. The data to be encoded are organized in the form of matrices and the elements are selectively grouped together using XOR operations to generate the code elements. In the paper we describe LEC coding and provide a comparison of the complexity of the coding scheme with that of Reed-Solomon (RS) codes and EVENODD codes. Also, we discuss the application of LEC to the transmission of VBR (variable bit rate) video traffic over ATM networks
