Abstract
This paper considers the problem of improving the coverage of wireless sensor network (WSN) after initial deployment of the sensors. This is crucial to enhancing the quality of WSN monitoring as well as prolonging the network lifetime. A technique called biogeography-based optimization (BBO) has been employed to improve WSN coverage. This algorithm is known to have slow convergence, so a virtual force (VF) algorithm is incorporated to improve the speed of convergence. Simulations results are presented to illustrate the performance improvement with the proposed technique.
