Abstract :
A new circuit topology for quadrature voltage- controlled oscillator (QVCO) is presented and demonstrated on a 4.5-GHz CMOS differential oscillator. In the proposed circuit two identical negative-resistance oscillators are coupled to each other via diode, in such a way that quadrature differential signals are generated with low voltage and low power. The QVCO has a phase noise of-113.8 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset while dissipating 2.5 mA from a 0.8-V supply, which corresponds to a FOM of-183.8 dB.
