Abstract
The authors briefly review past efforts to develop superconducting opening switches, and report on the initial phase of an analytical and experimental program designed to assess the potential of the high-transition temperature (Tc) materials as opening switches. The experimental assessment program, which used BiSrCaCuO films, and the ionized-cluster beam (ICB) film deposition process are outlined
