Abstract :
Electrolyte improvements made in laboratory half cells have enabled the practical development of the rechargeable Li/LiCoO2 system into sealed 70 mAh button cells. High-rate capabilities of greater than 6 mA/cm2 have been demonstrated in button cells cycled between 4.3 and 3.0 V at 25°C. Energy densities for a discharge rate of 2.7 mA/cm2 at 25°C, -10°C, and -40°C were 102, 89, and 81 Wh/kg, respectively. Higher-rate charging up to 1.25 mA/cm2 has been demonstrated. In addition, the effect of storage on the open circuit voltage of charged cells has been investigated
