Abstract
A method of estimating the cardiac output that is noninvasive, easy to use, and reliable is presented. The method is based on the uptake of inert gases and estimates effective pulmonary perfusion and related gas and tissue volumes of the lung. The development of the model and studies to determine a reliable parameter estimator are discussed.<>
