  • Abstract
MAODV is widely accepted as an on-demand multicast routing protocol for mobile ad hoc network (MANET). This paper presents a hybrid zone based multicast routing scheme (HZMAODV) to solve the scalability and robustness issues of MAODV. Inspired by the zone division principle and the geography aware routing, the proposed scheme firstly divides the routing area into several zones based on geographic information, and then constructs the inter-zone forward paths and the intra- zone paths for multicast routing respectively. Besides taking MAODV to build the intra-zone routing paths, the inter-zone paths are logically forwarded by the geography characteristics of the related mobile nodes. Simulation results illustrate that HZMAODV performs better than MAODV in terms of the forwarding efficiency and the average delay respectively with different configurations in the mobile velocity and the mobile receivers.
