Abstract :
The kinetics of lithium passivation and the development of the impedance of carbon electrodes and LiGaCl4 and LiAlCl4 non-solvate electrolytes in rechargeable Li/SO2 cells have been studied using the AC impedance technique. The effects of cycling and depth of discharge (DOD) on impedance parameters and the effects of electrolyte concentration on cell performance and open circuit voltage (OCV) are discussed. Results have shown that the carbon electrode is the limiting factor in cell capacity. Both electrolytes are stable during discharge or cycling. The cathodic product of the cell with LiAlCl4 electrolyte depends upon its electrolyte concentration
