Abstract :
Communication services operating in the conventional microwave bands are increasingly constrained by spectrum congestion which prevents any further significant expansion of services in this part of the radio spectrum and leads to additional problems of interference between neighbouring systems occupying the same wave bands. The University of Portsmouth in collaboration with Rutherford Appleton Laboratory have started a measurement campaign in the south of the UK operating at 97 GHz. This paper describes the complete analytical expressions for transmission losses at 97 GHz for a communication link under different meteorological conditions based on the ITU-R Recommendations. The link power budget calculations, path profiling and carrier to noise ratio for the 97 GHz line of sight link are presented. Moreover, a comprehensive description of the operational mechanism with block diagrams of 97 GHz communication system are presented. In addition to this, the preliminary results are also included.
