Abstract
Control of kinematics in the gait of paraplegics was done by trial-and-error adjustment of stimulation patterns. It allowed them to walk at a speed two thirds that of normal. Muscle activation to initiate each step and to move the body forward was timed to the detection of a pressure threshold under the heel. Gait kinematics approaching normal walking were achieved.<>
