Abstract
An adjustable "scanning mode" multifilar helical antenna with reduced frequency scanning is described. The antenna was designed for the Australian Mobile Satellite System, operating at about 1.6 GHz. The design described features a centre-fed arrangement, which is shown to substantially reduce frequency scanning in this type of antenna. A novel mechanical adjustment technique is also described, which allows the main beam of the antenna to be tilted.
