Abstract :
A hybrid approach, combining the ray-tracing method and the periodic moment method (PMM) for material objects, is developed to study the indoor wave propagation, penetrations, and also the scattering due to periodic structures in buildings. The PMM is applied to evaluate the specular and grating transmission and reflection coefficients of the periodic structures. The data are then used in the ray-tracing program to find specular and grating ray tubes for each ray tube illuminating one of the periodic structures. Those excited ray tubes are continuously traced to determine their contributions to receiving antennas. Measurements and simulations for waves propagating inside a staircase are compared and discussed, where the stairs are modeled as singly-periodic wedges having material properties similar to those of the reinforced concrete wall.
