  • Abstract
The lithium/chlorine in sulfuryl chloride (Li/CSC) chemical system offers high power and high energy for demanding applications. Data and results which highlight the power and energy density of the Li/CSC system are presented. In addition, other important system characteristics such as voltage delay, shelf-life and safety vents are discussed. Power density in excess of 2.7 W/cc or 1150 W/kg has been achieved. An energy density of over 1.1 Wh/cc or 500 Wh/kg has been demonstrated. The safety of the high rate Li/CSC system has been increased through the inclusion of a safety vent and/or a fuse assembly into the cell design
