Abstract
A widely discussed problem in mechanical ventilation is that of modifying the inspiratory flow (VI) pattern during mechanical ventilation. This theoretical study uses a bicompartimental model to determine the VI pattern, optimizing the peak airway pressure, mean inspiratory airway pressure and distribution of ventilation. The optimization is carried out using the current model of the patient´s lung. The parameters of this model can change with time, for which case an adaptation procedure is presented.<>
