  • Abstract
A titanium-indiffusion proton-exchange waveguide microlens has been utilized to construct a multichannel integrated acoustooptic module which simultaneously utilizes acoustooptic (AO) and electrooptic (EO) Bragg diffractions in a common LiNbO3 substrate. The module consists of a channel-waveguide array, a planar waveguide, a linear microlens array, an AO Bragg modulator, an EO Bragg modulator array, and a large-aperture lens in a substrate 0.1×1.0×2.0 cm3 in size. A novel scheme for simultaneous excitation of the entire channel-waveguide array was devised to facilitate experimentation of the multichannel module for applications in digital data processing. The autocorrelation and cross-correlation waveforms between binary sequence obtained using amplitude-modulated SAW (surface acoustic waves) at 16.7 Mb/s and voltage-modulated EO gratings were found to be in excellent agreement with theoretical calculations
