For the perforation corrosion in the stainless steel interior of electric water heater. A detailed study including metallographic analysis, SEM and XPS was carried out for the failure site of the sample. Based on the electrochemical experiment and corrosion experiment, we can draw the conclusion that the pitting corrosion of stainless steel interior can be induced by synergetic effect of many factors including the pitting corrosion, intergranular corrosion and crevice corrosion.
