    With the development of substation automation technology entering the digital era, digital relay protection system become inevitable. Digital protection system has a series of advantages, but its reliability problem had not been concerned also. In this paper, the difference between digital relay protection and the conventional protection had been analyzed firstly, and then the Markov model of full digital protection system had been established, which is for the digital protection system availability. With the calculation formula of availability, the conventional protection system and digital protection system were analyzed.
