Abstract
The authors developed a high energy density sealed Ni-Cd battery consisting of a pasted nickel electrode with a highly porous Ni fiber felt substrate and high-density nickel hydroxide powder. The high-density nickel hydroxide powder having a spherical shape made it possible to obtain a pasted nickel electrode with an energy density exceeding 550 mAh/cm3. The nickel electrode with high density nickel hydroxide powder added with Zn or Cd as a solid solution improved the cycle life and high-rate discharge characteristics. Additionally, high temperature charge acceptance is improved by the addition of cobalt together with Zn or Cd. The newly developed battery has a capacity of 800 mAh in AA size. 1800 mAh in SC size and 3000 mAh in C size
