Abstract
A zerotree pattern coding scheme is designed for coding prediction image residues. The strategy is to use zerotree structures without any spatial transforms. Spatial patterns of pixels are defined to occupy successive levels of the zerotrees. These patterns replace the standard quadtree ordering of wavelet coefficient values with simple pixel values. The zerotree pattern motion picture residue coding algorithm gives good performance over noisy channel conditions, while maintaining the compression achievable over error-free channels
