Abstract
The history-oriented temporal query language (HoTQuel), which has been conceived to best fit the semantic nature of temporal data both from the system´s and the user´s viewpoint, is presented. HoTQuel enforces the concept of history-placed between key and tuple concepts-applying a history-oriented data selection method in retrievals and updates. A unified recording operation allows updates that are transparent to the user, relieving him of the need for great expertise in temporal databases and detailed knowledge of the present database content. Whatever transactions are issued via HoTQuel statements, data consistency and adherence to reality are preserved throughout their execution
