Abstract
This paper discusses the development of a laser-induced fluorescence system which uses a novel optical access strategy to measure fuel distribution in the cylinder of direct injection, spark ignited, internal combustion engines. The focus is put on the several steps taken to ensure that accurate quantitative measurements are taken, while retaining conditions that are as realistic as possible. In particular, the design of the optical engine, the issues related to the choice of a fluorescent tracer and the calibration and processing of the images are described
