Abstract :
Summary form only given. The polyisocyanate random copolymer is newly synthesized, which contains an asymmetric chiral center and a nonlinear optical chromophore, Disperse-Red-1. The existence of the induced optical chirality is confirmed at the visible and near infrared spectral ranges. Upon the application of a corona field to the slab waveguide film, a change in the polarization rotation is observed, opening the possibility of the chiral electro-optic modulation in a chiral polymeric waveguide thin film. Based on this observation, an optical device with a new architecture can be envisioned where the polarization rotation can be modulated in a chiral polymeric waveguide with an external electric field.
