Abstract
Due to several advantages it provides, which include short end turns, high power density, high efficiency, high slot fill factor, low cogging torque etc, surface permanent magnet motors with fractional slot concentrated windings seem to be the most promising candidate for low speed high torque applications. This paper is going to deal with the effect of slot opening width on the performance of surface permanent magnet motors with fractional slot concentrated windings, which covers flux in the air gap, electromotive force (EMF), average torque, winding inductance as well as eddy-current losses in the magnet. The accurate 2-dimensional finite element method is used for the analysis.
