Abstract :
Storage and discharge tests and chemical analyses were conducted on Li/SO2 cells from two manufacturers. Cells from five lots and five storage temperatures, ranging from one year to seven years in age, were studied. An Arrhenius plot was constructed from the storage and discharge data and an activation energy of 10.26 kcal/mol was calculated for the self-discharge process. Hydrogen gas is generated during storage, resulting in a slight increase in internal pressure of the cells. This was not found to affect their performance or safety
