Abstract :
Summary form only given. We report on a fiber laser sensor for the measurement of isotropic pressure in fluids. The pressure acts directly onto a sensing fiber, i.e. no mechanical transducer is required. Further advantages include a frequency encoded output, which is easier to detect than the wavelength encoded output of a fiber Bragg grating sensor, a large temperature range of operation (in excess of 200/spl deg/C), and sensor multiplexing capabilities along a single line of fiber. Possible applications include pressure monitoring in oil wells.
