Abstract :
Wireless LAN products have been available for some time (e.g. WaveLAN from NCR). These products have experienced a limited market because they are proprietary. Now, two standards are available for wireless networking products. These are Hiperlan, a European standard, and IEEE 802.11, an American standard. This paper describes the unique requirements of wireless networking, as compared to a fixed, wired network, and describes the two standards with particular reference to the physical layer
